What
is the Annual Fund?
The Annual Fund is a yearly fundraising initiative that supports St. John's
current-year operating expenses. In order to help provide all that makes
this School special, SJES parents, alumni, grandparents and friends of
the school are asked to contribute to the Annual Fund.
What kinds of things does the Annual Fund support?
Gifts to the Annual Fund are generally unrestricted which means that the
School has the flexibility to spend the money on whatever is most necessary
within the operating budget. More specifically, Annual Fund dollars are
used to support a wide variety of essentials including technology upgrades,
teacher salaries and benefits, financial aid, professional development
opportunities for teachers and classroom supplies.
Why doesn’t tuition alone provide enough
income for the school?
As is true in nearly all independent schools like St. John's, tuition
alone only covers about 75% of the actual cost of each student’s
education. In this sense, one could say that every student at St. John's
attends on a partial scholarship. Raising tuition to cover the full cost
would put St. John's out of reach for too many families. A St. John's
education is special because of our talented teachers and small classes
with individualized attention. Yet, these educational benefits come with
a price tag, thereby making it necessary to ask for additional support
from parents, alumni, grandparents and friends of the School.
How much should I be giving?
Gifts to the Annual Fund range from $1 to $25,000 or more. It is the School’s
hope that you will consider a gift at a level that is appropriate for
you and your family.
