The
celebrations and traditions of the Episcopal faith provide the foundation
upon which our chapel program is based. Students attending St. John's
are of many faiths and encouraged in their own beliefs.
Full-time students attend chapel services three times weekly. Classroom
Bible-study takes place on the remaining days. Weekly lessons are taken
directly from the Episcopal Children's Curriculum and The Book of Common
Prayer. Students meet in the chapel on Tuesday for a Praise and Worship
service. On Wednesday, students attend a formal All-School Chapel service
conducted by The Rev. Mary E. Glover, Associate Rector of Church of
the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal. Fifth grade students serve as acolytes and
assistants, and readers during these services. Thursday chapel services
are presented by different classes on a rotating basis. Parents are always
welcome to attend chapel services.
Holy Eucharist is celebrated during All-School Chapel on the third Wednesday
of each month. Students and their families are invited to receive Holy
Communion or a blessing during this service.
Student birthdays are honored each week during the All-School Chapel
service. Invitations are mailed to parents of the honoree one week prior
to the event. Summer birthdays are celebrated as half-birthdays during
December and January.
