The mission of the St. John's music program is to provide students with
a base of knowledge that leads to music appreciation and application.
The various studies designed for this program teach students how a time
period can change the sound of music and how music can become the voice
of a people in a time period. Music appreciation leads to confidence in
attending various styles of concerts, the ability to listen and understand
what it took to create and perform compositions of different styles, and
learning something new and/or being touched by the talent of others.
St. John's students gain the building blocks for applied music. It is
a goal of the program that students graduate with the ability to read
advanced elementary levels of music notation. With this knowledge they
can focus on how to play the instrument of their choice at the middle
school level. Achievement of this goal means our students can accomplish
a great deal in their musical endeavors by the time they graduate from
high school.
The St. John's music program teaches in the present what will take our
students into the future of the language of music.
