Classroom
hours are 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. An overview of the third grade program
follows.
Reading
Open Court is our adopted curriculum which emphasizes learning through fluency, comprehension and vocabulary. The students will explore stories from around the world. Additionally, students are introduced to short novel studies as art of classroom instruction. The Accelerated
Reader program is also used to build comprehension and track

Our spelling program emphasizes spelling correctly across the curriculum.

The year culminates with the World Bazaar
where students present individual in-depth research projects on various

Science
Discovery Works is our adopted science curriculum. Science activities provide for the teaching of the basic elements that make up the scientific method. Topics of study include, but are not limited to:

In addition to classroom activities, the students receive instruction
each week in spanish, P.E., library, art and music to include instruction
in tonal chimes and recorders. During those times, enrichment teachers
with specialized training for their particular area guide the children
through lessons appropriate for their age level. They spend time in the
computer lab twice a week, developing basic skills in operating the equipment,
manipulating age appropriate software and continuing to practice basic
keyboarding skills.
Third grade students attend Chapel three times a week. Bible stories
are taught in the classroom and Christian morals are encouraged. Students
are encouraged to memorize Bible verses, the Beatitudes, the Ten Commandments;
the Lord's Prayer, and the books of the Bible.
