Classes
are offered on a three-day or five-day schedule. Classroom hours are 8:00
a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Age requirement for this program is four years old
by September 1st of the school year.
The Pre-K program focuses on active learning, concentrating on the development of number skills, and reading readiness skills, including letter names, letter sound recognition and high frequency words.
Open Court is our adopted reading readiness program. This curriculum is designed to differentiate learning for every child in a literature-rich environment that will instill a lifelong passion for reading, writing, and all types of literature.
Although complete mastery is not expected, students are provided a wide
range of learning experiences that will enable them to begin kindergarten
with confidence. These educational areas include, but are not limited
to:

In addition to classroom activities, the students receive instruction
each week in library, music, P.E. and spanish. During those times, enrichment
teachers with specialized training for their particular area guide the
children through lessons appropriate for their age level. Students also
spend time in the computer lab at least once a week, developing basic
skills in operating the equipment, manipulating age appropriate software
and beginning to develop basic keyboarding skills.
St. John's Pre-K students attend Chapel three days a week. Bible stories
are taught in the classroom and Christian morals are encouraged.
